CELEBRATRE!
LOVE ME DO – BEATLES
Whether you like or not – Paul is not very popularwith a few people in the UK – this boys band had imagination at the right timing. They were not the only ones, but they were luckier. I’m not gonna lecture my facebook friends, but the younger ones mightn’t know that the 60′s was a decade of kind of total REVOLUTION in everything: music, graphic arts, women’s liberation, anticommunism uprising in Prague, Czechoslovakia crushed by the Soviet Army, La Sorbonne students demonstrations in Paris in 1968, joined by les ouvriers des usines Renault de Billancourt, that brought France to a standstill for the whole month of May, the US-Vietnam War and the massive demos against that (Bob Dylan).
Whatever the demands were, the main topic was freedom from a bygone boring and repressive strait jacket world (oppressive parents, bosses, state, church, you name it: you couldn’t breathe!). Mistakes were made, like the democratization of psychedelic drugs, and other excesses that crop up when you’re growing up and you don’t listen to the words of wisdom when your parents warn you of the dangers of the underground world out there.
And bear in mind that the CARNATIONS REVOLUTION IN PORTUGAL in 1974 was also connected to this wave of freedom that swept across the 1960′s mainly in Europe and the US. The Arab Spring REVOLUTION should copy the Portuguese Military that overthrew a 50-year fascist dictatorship with carnations stuffed into the machine guns barrels: Definitely, carnations don’t kill, virtually no shots were fired and virtually NOBODY DIED. No doubt that THE PORTUGUESE REVOLUTION was inspired by the 1960′s freedom movement that advocated MAKE LOVE NOT WAR.
