Two sisters, aged seven and 10, who died after the car they were in crashed into a drainage ditch in Norfolk, have been named by police.
Jessica and Tamzin Portor died in hospital from serious head injuries after a Ford Focus overturned on the A47 near Wisbech on Thursday night.
The children come from Sutton Bridge, near Spalding, Lincolnshire.
Their father, aged 38, a woman, aged 43, and their 12-year-old brother suffered minor injuries.
The three were taken to hospital in King's Lynn and later discharged.
Ch Insp Chris Spinks appealed for witnesses to come forward.
He said: "Fatal collisions are tragic in any circumstances but given the fact that two young lives have been lost at this time of year seems to make it that much worse.
"Specially trained family liaison officers are supporting the bereaved relatives and collision investigation officers are piecing together the events that led to the crash.
"The circumstances are still unclear at this stage and I would ask anyone who thinks they might have information to come forward."
Officers said the Ford was being driven towards Wisbech when it left the road and overturned, coming to rest on its side.
The A47 was closed in both directions for several hours following the accident.

Fatal M6 crash in Staffordshire kills two boys and woman

The M6 was closed in both directions for several hours after the crash
Two brothers, aged 4 and 10, and a 32-year-old woman have died following a crash on the M6 in Staffordshire.
Their car overturned on a northbound lane between junctions 14, near Stafford, and 15, near Stoke-on-Trent, about 11:25 GMT.
The driver, believed to be the boys' mother, and another woman in the car were seriously injured.
They were taken to hospital and were said by West Midlands Ambulance Service to be in a "stable" condition.
Staffordshire police appealed for witnesses to the incident, involving a red Ford Focus, to contact them.
Earlier, the ambulance service said three children had died.
In a revised statement a spokesman for West Midlands Ambulance Service said: "Crews arrived to find a single vehicle that had crashed and overturned.
"Two children and an adult that were travelling in the vehicle suffered serious injuries. Unfortunately, despite the best efforts of ambulance crews, nothing could be done to save the two boys and one woman, and they were confirmed dead at the scene.
"Two other adult women travelling in the car, both received emergency treatment at the scene for their injuries and were transferred by land ambulances to University Hospital of North Staffordshire on blue lights for further treatment."
The northbound stretch of M6 was shut for several hours.
Three ambulances, three paramedic officers, a doctor and two Midland Air Ambulances attended the scene.
'Difficult circumstances'
Staffordshire Police had initially said "several vehicles" had been involved, causing "multiple fatalities", but later confirmed it was a one-vehicle crash.
The ambulance service added: "All emergency services personnel worked seamlessly together at the scene in exceptionally difficult circumstances. Unfortunately, the outcome was not the one everyone would have hoped for."
TrafficThe M6 northbound was closed after the accident but re-opened before 16:45 GMT
The southbound section of the motorway was initially closed but re-opened mid-afternoon.
The M6 is among a number of key routes that have been struck by weather-related delays in recent days amid heavy rain.
Earlier in Hampshire, two people were killed in a car crash, police said.
The collision happened on the B3349, Odiham Road, near Basingstoke, and police were notified at about 10:05 GMT.
A third person, believed to be the driver of the vehicle, was seriously injured.

Crise leva presidente da Junta de Castelo de Neiva a pegar na mala para voltar a emigrar

Dezoito anos depois de ter voltado à terra de pescadores que o viu nascer, Augusto Bandeira, de 49 anos, volta a partir para o Canadá, para “não cair em desgraça”.

Em Maio passado, Augusto Bandeira sofreu o primeiro grande revés desde que decidiu voltar a Castelo de Neiva, em Viana do Castelo, há 18 anos. A crise económica em que o país mergulhou e o impacto da introdução de portagens na A28 arruinaram-lhe o negócio que tinha montado com a mulher.
O restaurante que abriu na freguesia onde se tornaria presidente de junta em 2009 fechou as portas. O investimento de 400 mil euros foi por “água abaixo” e seis pessoas foram atiradas para o desemprego.
A mulher, que tinha investido na formação como cozinheira, não esperou muito e partiu rumo ao Canadá, onde o casal já esteve emigrado durante 15 anos. Augusto foi resistindo, em nome dos compromissos assumidos com os eleitores. Mas a falta de perspectivas de recuperação económica não lhe deixou alternativa senão voltar a emigrar também.
“Eu não posso estar num país onde tenha que roubar o Estado. Para continua a exercer a actividade de empresário da restauração, seria obrigado a defraudar o Estado português, nomeadamente pela não declaração de todos os rendimentos auferidos”, comenta.
O bilhete de avião para o Canadá está marcado para o próximo dia 24. À sua espera, em Toronto, já tem emprego, como administrador de uma empresa.
“Que ninguém pense que estou a fugir. Não me resta outra solução. Não sou só obrigado a partir, sou empurrado para fora do meu país, para não cair em desgraça”, afirma, angustiado.
Eleito nas últimas autárquicas pelas listas do PSD, partido no qual milita há seis anos, Augusto Bandeira suspendeu o mandato de presidente da junta por três meses e escreveu ao primeiro-ministro. Em jeito de despedida, na carta registada e com aviso de recepção que remeteu a Pedro Passos Coelho, Bandeira diz que é com “tristeza” que constata pertencer a um partido que, “neste momento, está a ser obrigado a destruir famílias, sem se perspectivarem quaisquer melhorias a médio/longo prazo”.
Dizendo que rasgar o cartão de militante do PSD não está nos seus planos, confessa-se, no entanto, desiludido com a política e com os políticos. “São muito rascas. Temos uma classe política que tem muito a aprender.”
Na carta a Passos Coelho, o antigo empresário diz recear que “a actual situação se venha a agravar, por não existirem políticos interessados na função pública, entendida como serviço à nação, sem formação de gestão e cujo interesse se centra em manter um statu quo que, com a conjuntura económica que o país atravessa, será ruinoso”. “Se um dia as coisas mudarem, conto regressar ao meu país”, acrescenta.
De partida para o outro lado do Atlântico, Augusto Bandeira diz ter deixado o trabalho de autarca todo organizado. Preparou o plano de actividades e orçamento e deixa, nas mãos do tesoureiro, Paulo Torre, a missão de olhar pela freguesia, para já, durante os próximos três meses. “Depois vou renovando [a suspensão do mandato] até às eleições, e não devo recandidatar-me. Quero acompanhar os meus colegas sempre que possível e vou tentar regressar para as assembleias", adianta.
Augusto Bandeira não esconde a frustração por não ter concluído a rede de saneamento básico ou a desejada obra no portinho de pesca, onde ocorreram vários acidentes mortais nos últimos anos, apesar das verbas comunitárias prometidas ao abrigo do Polis Litoral Norte. Aliás, na carta enviada ao primeiro-ministro, volta a lembrar Passos Coelho da urgência da intervenção.
Voltar à vida de emigrante não estava nos planos do empresário e autarca, que diz ficar à espera de uma resposta de Passos Coelho, na volta do correio, às palavras que lhe endereçou. “Apesar de simples, foi uma carta sentida.”

LABOUR PARTY RECONHECE FALHAS NO APOIO À INTEGRAÇÃO.

ISSO É O QUE A FOLHINHA DE STOCKWELL DIZ EM VOZ ALTA JÁ HÁ ANOS!

Resultados do Recenseamento de 2011 deixaram todos os políticos de boca aberta capazes de engolir o Big Ben.  Muitos bebés a nascer das polacas, das indianas e das paquistanesas. Que festa, pá! Os catódicos em baixa, obviously, e o mixlins em alta. Que tchareia,  chicotada nos bacos e mãos a despedirem-se das asas! Estava a olhos vistos que a poplução londrina de origem estrangeira já tinha ultrapassado os anglosaxões. Mas onde se meteram estes?

Só que a classe política tinha os olhares mais fixados nas torres da alta finança de Canary Whaf do que nos Housing Estates da Grande Londres. Tanto que dali até ia caindo algum. Mas não viram ou fecharam os olhos sobre a network das “Liaisons Dangereuses” de todo o género de branqueamentos de monim na Torre HSBC, indo do terrorismo, estados terroristas, até aos cartéis dos narco-traficantes mexicanos. E tudo debaixo das barbas do Davide!

 Foi preciso o Uncle Sam meter o nariz na marosca e depois espetar-lhes uma multa dos diabos no pelo -- uma pessoa até se perde a contar os  zeros à direita, por terem de apanhar com o cheiro nauseabundo daquelas negociatas underground! Valeu a pena! Eu também lá ia, mas de máscara, e de desfibrilador  na caixa toráxica, em caso de  saltarem os fusíveis do meu circuito eléctrico.

Todos os  Estados, não só o Britânico, têm por dever dar formação em cidadania às comunidades imigrantes, e não só pensar no lucro da produção das mesmas. Mas também por aí há muitíssimo britânico que percebem tanto de cidadania como eu percebo de chinês. Temos um problema grave de massas amórficas em todo o mundo. Mas também não é problema, quando elas começam a sair muito do casco,  levam nas lonas e depois ficam quietinhas, caladinhas e de bola baixa, num cantinho, a curtir.


Praticamente não se fez aqui nada relevante  sobre a integração das comunidades acabadas de chegar. E depois admiram-se das burkas e do home grown terrorista que apanhou o metro em Stockwell com uma mochila cheia de explosivos bolorentos, falhou tudo, e depois pirou-se de burka para Itália. 

 Mas foram lá caçá-lo e agora está a apodrecer na pildra, a  rezar o “terço”  de manhã à noite. Já aprendeu os “os versos semânticos” de cor e até pode ser catequista disso, na versão dinamite, Inchá-la.  Quem se lixou foi o desgraçado do  Jean de Menezes, acidentalmente fuzilado no metro de Stockwell e nunca soube porquê. O rapazito ia para o trabalho, não fez e nem  fazia mal a ninguém.

 Na vertente mais suave, ficamos surprendidos  pelo número enorme de analfabetos ou  semi-analfabetos que andam por aí ao deus dará pelo Reino Unido fora, quando o ensino da língua Inglesa a essa gente é escasso e, por vezes, deixa muito a desejar.  Mesmo assim, tem-se feito alguma coisa nisto, mas é pouco, muito pouco. Deveria de haver muito mais sensiblização nesta área.

Os vereadores Labour por Stockwell que leiam este artigo do Mestre Ed e reflitam quão a política e estar mental da Câmara Municipal de Lambeth tem sido errática e detrimental em relação à  Comunidade Lusófona.  Há urgência em corrigir o azimute.

Praticamente não têm ajudado na integração e têm mais primado pela ausência e abandono, sobretudo em período não eleitorais.

Mas destes ainda há alguma esperança se tivermos líderes comunitários à altura, exigentes, e sobretudo que zelem verdadeiramente pelos interesses da comunidade, que digam o que têm feito e o que podem fazer.  

Alguns pseudo-líderes -- nem sequer foram eleitos -- andam a leste, ausentes de tudo, mais a pensar na sobrevivência deles próprios do que no interesse colectivo da comunidade. Eles próprios estão totalmente desintegrados e fechadíssimos no Gueto Lusófono.

"Too little" has been done to integrate people who have settled in British society, Ed Miliband has said. 

The Labour leader called for more proficiency in the English language as part of his One Nation ideal.

He also admitted his party's last government made mistakes in tackling the "realities of segregation" in struggling communities.

He said he was proud of "multi-ethnic, diverse Britain", but accepted people had anxieties about immigration.

Among his proposals to improve integration is banning those without high proficiency in English from some public sector jobs that involve working closely with people, such as home helps.

Mr Miliband also said that local authorities should cut their translation services if that would protect their budgets for language classes.

His speech in south London came just days after the 2011 Census showed that fewer than half the people living in London are white British.
'Immigration anxiety'
  The figures also showed that in 2011, 13% of England and Wales residents - 7.5 million out of a total population of 56.1 million - were born outside the UK.

"People of mixed race are among the fastest-growing group in the population of our country", and this is "a development with which our country is at ease", Mr Miliband said.

Mr Miliband - who spoke with pride of his own parents' history as Jewish refugees from the Holocaust - described his enthusiasm for ethnic diversity in the UK.
"We are stronger for it - and I love Britain for it. It gives us access to new ideas, new perspectives, new energies," he said.


"But at the same time we know there is anxiety about immigration and what it means for our culture. The answer is not to sweep it under the carpet."

In part, that means rejecting the idea that people can "live side by side in their own communities, respecting each other but living separate lives, protected from hatreds but never building a common bond - never learning to appreciate one another", he explained.

On his party's time in government, he said: "The solutions seemed abstract but the problems were real. We talked about 'shared citizenship'.

"But we did too little to tackle the realities of segregation in communities that were struggling to cope."

'Connected, not segregated'
  He criticised cuts to English language teaching despite a rising proportion of children who are non-native speakers.

"If we are going to build One Nation, we need to start with everyone in Britain knowing how to speak English. We should expect that of people that come here," he said.

Labour plans to prioritise spending on English language teaching for recent immigrants over non-essential written translation materials.

Under the proposals, parents will be required to take responsibility for their foreign-born children learning English at home, and being able to speak English will be made mandatory in a greater number of public sector jobs.

A ban on recruitment agencies advertising only for workers from particular countries will help to end segregation in the workplace, he said.

"There are some shifts in some factories that are still segregated by language and by background. And there are jobs which still recruit far more easily from within one community than from other," Mr Miliband said.

The Labour leader said he wanted a "comprehensive strategy for integration" to bring the UK into line with other European countries.

But Sir Andrew Green of Migration Watch, a think tank which campaigns for tighter immigration controls, said Labour needed to do more.
"It's frankly not enough to now pop up and say 'We'll do something about English language teaching'.

"We're left with an enormous problem of integration and these measures, by comparison to that, are pretty trivial."

    I saw a some Albanians in Greece in a Cafe. Greece was playing football against another nation. The other team scored - the Albanians did not dare rejoice!

    I saw some Albanians in the England watching football in a pub. England was playing against another nation's team - England scored- the Albanians hit the ceiling with joy!

    For all the negativity England must be doing something right.

    I can't help suspecting that incomers take one look at our society and recognise it for the shallow, self obsessed moral vacuum that it is and decide instantly that apart from doing a fair day's work for a fair day's pay they want nothing else to do with it.

    Integration is a two way process.

    If we want people to integrate we have to allow them. Not keep them at arms distance, want nothing to do with them & then complain that they don't want to integrate when we make it difficult for them.

    Go to any Northern working class area & you'll find that Asians are separate as much because the whites want nothing to do with them as them keeping to themselves.

    It's a natural desire for immigrants to live close together and form their own communities and lifestyles. This is not unique to the UK. Go to Spain and you will see British enclaves with pubs, cricket and C of E churches. Go to Costa Rica and you will see Americans living in gated communities celebrating the 4th July and Thanksgiving.

    You cannot force people to integrate.

    As an immigrant to this country who has also lived in America, what is different is that immigrants who settle in america want to embrace the culture and become american. This doesn't happen here as freely and it's down to Britain's imperial past where the dynamic was one of master/subservient, which still pervades somewhat. Ed has his work cut-out but I wish all the best!
